CIRCUIT REGULATIONS

Updated Dec 2006
Circuit Regs 2007

1. OWNER DRIVERS

1.1 A driver must sign on and pay for testing prior to going on to the circuit. It must be understood that all owner drivers take part at their own risk. No personal injury insurance is provided by the circuit operators for participants.

1.2 When testing a driver must wear as a minimum :
1.2.1 A crash helmet (BS6658 type B minimum) which fits correctly with a functional strap.
1.2.2 A flame retardant overall or race suit, gloves and foot wear that provide foot protection.

1.3 When on the circuit a driver must obey all signals given by flag marshals and officials. In addition if the light warning system is in use you must slow down with no overtaking for Yellow Flashing lights. If the red lights are flashing reduce your speed to walking pace and Stop on the start line... await further instructions.

1.4 A driver must drive with care at all times, looking well ahead and within safe limits
relating to the skill levels of himself and other drivers on the circuit. It must be remembered that you are testing / practicing but NOT racing. As a result you should back off slower karts and overtake only when it is safe to do so. The responsibility for safety remains with the driver AT ALL TIMES !
Groups of karts which are obviously “racing” will be black flagged !

1.5 In the event of a kart stopping on the circuit due to a mechanical problem the driver
must pull it into a safe position off the circuit and wait until the session is stopped to allow recovery. Cadet drivers must be told to stay in the kart until assistance arrives. Parents may only go onto the circuit once they have obtained permission from the circuit manager.

1.6 Cadets karts may be driven by any drivers aged from 7 – 13. Mini / Junior Rotax karts or similar may only be driven by drivers aged from 11 to 17 who can demonstrate previous karting experience eg MSA licence, ARKS training course or a KNE junior Induction session. Inexperienced drivers aged 11 to 16 can only drive single or twin engined Prokarts or similar. Senior Rotax karts or similar may only be driven by drivers 16 years or older who can demonstrate previous experience (as for juniors).

1.7 Junior drivers (under 16 years old) must be supervised at all times by a responsible
adult. If they stop on the circuit it is the adults responsibility to deal with the problem as
quickly as possible. The driver must be instructed either to stay in the kart and wait or leave the kart and move to a position of safety. The adult will then move the kart, as quickly as possible, to a position of safety.

1.8 When leaving the circuit a driver must make a clear signal i.e. by raising one hand and move well off the racing line before exiting the circuit. With the exception of owner driver race meetings and practice days prior to an MSA race meeting the scutineering building and exit from the circuit must not be used.

2. THE KART

2.1 The kart must conform in all ways with ABKC kart safety specifications and it must
carry as a minimum a number front and rear.

2.2 Refuelling is a fire risk for which the driver is fully responsible. Refuel in the designated area (adjacent to the Calor Gas tank) which is a no smoking area. If you do refuel in the Pits be aware of others that may be smoking. Have a fire extinguisher on hand.

2.3 Lead or ballast must be attached to the kart with a minimum of 2 mechanical fixings.
Do not exceed 25 kg of ballast without prior agreement in writing from KNE.

2.4 KNE will inspect and mark all karts that are present at the monthly Fun Meeting or MSA meeting that have passed a scrutineers safety check. Karts can only be used on the circuit that carry such a mark. Ask at reception if your kart needs to be inspected.

3. OTHERS WITH YOU

3,1 No one is allowed onto the circuit without the permission of the Circuit Manager.
3.2 No one is allowed into the area of the Grid except a Pusher / Mechanic. All spectators
must stay to the outside of the circuit fencing and remain behind the wooden fence adjacent to the Grid.

3.3 The Grid is a non smoking area. Smoking is only allowed in the spectator areas.

3.4 A novice, inexperienced or young driver MUST NOT be allowed to drive your kart on
the circuit without signing on and undergoing the appropriate training.

4. The Circuit & Paddock

4.1 Do not move any tyre barriers or interfere with any safety equipment without the
permission of the member of staff supervising the circuit. This particularly applies in the pit lane area!

4.2 Do not drive karts through the paddock at any time. Either use a kart trolley or push the kart to ensure the safety of pedestrians.

4.3 Do not use foul language or be abusive to other drivers or their team. If problems arise either on the circuit or in the paddock please contact a member of KNE staff.
These regulations have been introduced to protect the interests of all circuit users and the Operators. If you have any question, or you have a point to make regarding any safety issue please go to reception and ask for the Circuit Manager.

Failure to comply with these age restrictions is a serious issue that may lead to a ban from the circuit for a period of time. If you are unsure of your position please ask the Karting North East Circuit Manager to clarify the regulations.
